Lost in Art

Poetry by Robert Stone: Mind and heart lost in art Mind and heart lost in art
- a villanelle for the birthday of Terri Powell Haight Arise my drawing mind and painting heart
to forms and lines depicting how I see
and let me lose all track of time in art.

On patio with coffee and a tart
sweet birdsong lulls resolve to busy be.
Arise my drawing mind and painting heart.

With kitchen magic or with garden cart
my hands will fashion good in joyful spree
and let me lose all track of time in art.

My day is filled with work which I must chart.
At night mosquitoes keep me company.
Arise my drawing mind and painting heart.

The piercings by the sharp creative dart
inject a lonely focus setting free
and let me lose all track of time in art.

Too often blanket-warmed I would not start,
to bother not my cat my easy plea.
Arise my drawing mind and painting heart
and let me lose all track of time in art.

- Robert Stone, 29 October 2010
